Louis Vuitton
Louis Vuitton the high fashion brand we know today for their ultra expensive, ultra chic handbags actually dates back to a luggage company founded in the mid 19th century by Monsieur Louis Vuitton in Paris. He opened Malletier a’ Paris in 1853 on the Rue Neuve des Capucines. Five years later he developed and patented an airtight, flat bottom, canvas trunk. It would soon become standard among wealthy European travelers not only because their canvas material made them lightweight but also because their flat bottoms allowed for an easier and more efficient means of stacking while traveling.
Georges Vuitton took the reigns in 1893 and soon launched a campaign to expand the company worldwide. He first brought his ware to the Chicago World Fair in 1892 marking the American debut. Modeled after traditional Asian design the now famous beige on chestnut, canvas monogram, the LV, was introduced three years later and is still used in designs in the present day. Also his use of softer and more pliable leathers developed into wallets and handbags much like the ones we see today in any of the worldwide locations.
As each heir took head of the company it has continued to expand and develop into a worldwide organization with location throughout the world as well as having expanded their product line to include not merely luggage and handbags but also into a publisher of travel books, distributor of liquors, designer fashions and even perfume.
After more than 150 years the name Louis Vuitton still represents quality in design and style. Louis Vuitton creations can still be seen adorning the beauties of Hollywood and around the world.
